CAMP yAAC

What a fantastic summer for AAC! A total of 59 campers attended our carnival-themed Camp yAAC Communication Camp this year. We hosted two 2-day camps and two 3-day camps from July 13^th to 24^th at Camp Manitou. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the many volunteers and members of the Camp yAAC Committee whose dedication and planning made these camps such a success.

Campers enjoyed many of our favorite camp experiences, including ziplining, swimming,canoeing, water games, arts and crafts, bingo, story time, literacy activities, rink games, and outdoor games. There was truly something for everyone! Throughout camp, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) was everywhere. Campers, support workers, OARC staff, and volunteers all used AAC to communicate, connect, participate, and build meaningful relationships. By embracing AAC in every activity and interaction, we created an inclusive environment where everyone could belong and have their voice heard. 

The final day of each camp featured a special carnival celebration, where families were invited to join the fun. Campers and families enjoyed carnival stations such as fishing games, target challenges, face painting, and a duck pond, with prizes for everyone. The ice cream bike was a huge hit and generously sponsored by the Guimond family. Visitors are always a welcome highlight, with a stilt-walking clown, a balloon artist, a veterinary clinic, and a music therapist bringing excitement and enrichment to the camp experience.
